Does My Doctor Accept Medicare — and Advantage Networks in Central Florida?
If you have Original Medicare, you can generally see any doctor or hospital in the United States that accepts Medicare. If you have Medicare Advantage, you usually need to follow that plan’s HMO or PPO network rules. Whether a specific Central Florida doctor or hospital accepts a given plan is not something an article can guarantee — participation changes by plan and year. The reliable approach is to verify with the provider’s billing office, the plan’s directory, and Medicare’s Plan Finder before you enroll.
Original Medicare vs. Advantage networks
Original Medicare: Ask whether the provider accepts Medicare and whether they accept assignment (they agree to the Medicare-approved amount). A small number of providers opt out of Medicare entirely; others accept Medicare but not assignment. Medigap then helps with cost-sharing from Original Medicare — see Medigap in Florida.
Medicare Advantage: HMO plans typically require in-network doctors except in emergencies (and often a referral to see specialists). PPO plans usually allow out-of-network care at a higher cost. “The hospital down the road” is not automatically in every Advantage contract. Read What is Medicare Advantage?
How to check — do not rely on a blog list
- Call the doctor’s billing or referral desk and ask which Medicare Advantage plan names they will accept for the upcoming year — not just “do you take Medicare?”
- Use the plan’s provider directory and Medicare’s Plan Finder at Medicare.gov. Directories can be stale; treat them as a starting point, then confirm.
- Call the plan with the provider’s NPI or full name and address if the office and the directory disagree.
- Re-check every AEP. A specialist who was in-network this year may drop next year. That is why we will not publish a guaranteed list of Central Florida hospital systems for named plans.
Central Florida reality (without inventing networks)
Osceola, Orange, and Brevard have multiple hospital systems and large medical groups. A plan that lists clinics in Kissimmee may list a different specialist panel in Orlando or Melbourne. We do not claim that any particular system — or any well-known Central Florida brand — is in-network for a given Advantage plan. Those contracts are plan-specific and year-specific. If a salesperson names a hospital as “always covered,” ask them to show the current directory line and then verify with the hospital’s insurance desk.
Action
Write down your PCP, specialists, preferred hospital, and pharmacies. Call each office before you enroll or switch. Bring that list to a review with a licensed agent.
