Can I Change My Medicare Advantage Plan in Florida?

Yes. Most people in Florida can change Medicare Advantage plans during the Annual Election Period (October 15 – December 7), with changes usually effective January 1. You may also change during a qualifying Special Enrollment Period, and — if you already have Advantage — during the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (January 1 – March 31) with more limited options. Outside those windows, you generally cannot switch just because you want to.

When changes are allowed

AEP (Oct 15–Dec 7): Broadest yearly window to switch Advantage plans, pick a different Part D plan, or move to Original Medicare (with Part D/Medigap considerations).

Advantage Open Enrollment (Jan 1–Mar 31): If you start the year in an Advantage plan, you may switch to a different Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare (rules and Part D timing matter — confirm annually).

SEPs: Moving out of your plan’s service area, losing other coverage, certain 5-star plan opportunities, and other CMS-defined events can open a temporary window.

Central Florida tips

Before switching, re-check doctor and hospital participation in Osceola, Orange, or Brevard for the new plan year. Pharmacy networks and formularies change — especially important if you use specialty drugs. Compare related pages: What is Medicare Advantage? and Advantage vs. Supplement.

Action

If it is AEP or you have an SEP, gather your Medicare number, doctor list, and medications, then review options for your ZIP. Do not drop coverage without a confirmed enrollment path.

Common questions

Usually no. Outside AEP, Advantage Open Enrollment, or a qualifying SEP, mid-year switches are limited.
Sometimes — if you move outside your current plan’s service area or to a new address that changes available plans. Moving across the street in the same service area may not qualify. Ask before assuming.
